The Katakana equivalent

How to remember it

An eye with a crossed-out lash — め is also the word for "eye" (目, me).

め is two strokes and, crucially, no loop — the second stroke crosses the first and finishes with a free sweep. Compare it side by side with ぬ once and the pair usually stops being a problem.

Example words

  • ame rain, candy
  • megane glasses
  • dame no good
